DNI Application Process: Complete Guide

The Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI) is Argentina's national ID card. It's your proof of legal residency and required for opening bank accounts, signing leases, getting local phone plans, and accessing many services. Unlike the visa (which is in your passport), the DNI is a separate card you carry.

Apply after your visa is approved and you've entered Argentina. You must start the process within 90 days of entry on most visa types. Don't wait - appointments can be hard to get and processing takes 3-6 months. Some people report getting appointments faster at provincial RENAPER offices outside Buenos Aires.
